A new opportunity for optometry

The foundation of sports vision has been to provide athletes with the best equipment for their sports specific tasks with the highest possible performance attributes in the areas of optical clarity, protection, and stability. Today, a new concept is emerging that goes beyond eyewear performance features to harness the power of the brain to see faster and react quicker.

Optometry’s relatively narrow definition of sports vision may be limiting the full potential of improving human performance by only focusing on improving optical clarity, protection, and ocular motor function of the eyes. Neurodynamic Vision expands traditional sports vision procedures to consider additional cognitive aspects of visual processing including response time, response accuracy, fixation stability and visual search strategies, to name a few of the critical aspects needed in training and competition.
